Why "proper"?
Most kanji you see on shirts, prints, and skin outside Japan was chosen by matching sounds. Nobody checked what the characters actually say — that is how someone ends up wearing 麺 (noodle) for life.
Everything on this site shows its reasoning: what each character means, how it reads, and why it was chosen over the alternatives. If we can't explain a choice in plain English, we don't offer it.
